The PGIIM Library

The PGIIM Library utilizes the premises on the 5th floor of the Borella Ayurveda Teaching hospital. The Library has organized a Reference section and Lending Section and supplies reading facilities for users. The Library collection contains books in Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha. All books arranged in the Library are classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDC- 22nd Edition) and cataloged by the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR-2 R). The Library supplies a reading facility and a limited capacity to use their laptops for study purposes. The E-databases linked to the website under UGC and UOC subscribed related to the PGIIM. The Library is developing with the current trends of the digital environment to provide virtual facilities through Library automation and develop digital collection and repository.

General Guidelines

  • Readers must produce their Institute identity card when entering the library.
  • Do not take library books out of the library without following the borrowing procedure.
  • Make sure to return the borrowed items by the due date.
  • Readers who visit the library are advised to sign the attendance register provided.
  • Nonmembers should ask permission before coming to the library. Permission has to be obtained from the Assistant Librarian.
  • Readers are not allowed to accompany any visitors in the library. All visitors should get the pre permission from the assistant librarian.

 

Practice good manners

  • Readers are not permitted to bring bags, parcels, books, or copies of any printed materials, umbrellas, food items, water bottles, or any personal belongings to the library.
  • Making unreasonable noise, loud conversations, loud cell phone calls, or playing loud music or video that can distract other library users in the library is not permitted.
  • Library furniture/equipment should not be moved from its original location.
  • Reservation of library seats is not allowed.
  • Readers are required to keep the silence inside the library.
  • Library books should be protect for future, therefore highlighting, coloring, underline, breaking pages are strictly prohibited

Library registration is eligible for below categories.

  • PG Trainees
  • Academic Staff
  • Administrative staff
  • Nonacademic staff

The Library registration is provided to users every academic year. Users should be get registered in the library before using its materials. The library registration is eligible for PG trainees, academics, administrative, and non-academic staff of the PGIIM. The registration is valid for one year, after that It should be renewed every academic year. The annual library registration date and time will inform to users on the library web. Users could download the relevant application and submit it to the library to get their annual renewable. Library cards must be used carefully because the cards will not be re-issued.

The library collection builds up with the recommendation of each program’s heads, supervisors, and lectures in Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha. The collection includes recommended reading materials for each program. Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha Books collections are developing to user needs. University of Colombo and UGC subscribed to e databases linked to the PGIIM website. These databases could be used log-in using institute emails on the relevant log-in pages of the database.

Reference Collection

  • The reference collection is located in a separate rack to be identified easily for users.
  • The PGIIM provides reference service only in-house due to the small collection. These reference books are not allowed to bring outside of the library. When users are looking to use a reference book it will be helpful if you ask the librarian. Once a time book will issue for read-only purposes.
  • Lending books will issue to users as their requirements and reference books are not issued for bringing outside. Reference books are only for in-house reading.

Lending Collection

Lending Services provide access to the general book collections of the Library. The services are available only to the user who is registered as a library member. All the books are classified and cataloged under the reputed library standards. Users can find out subject areas easily under their needs. The collection contains Indigenous Medicine books. The user has responsibility for protecting the library books have borrowed. When the book returns to Library, if there is any damage, the user should have to get responsible for it, they have to pay a fee as prescribed by the Library

E collection

Library users can access the Library’s collection of online resources and databases through the Library’s e- collection section on the web. University of Colombo and UGC subscribed e – databases have linked to the PGIIM Library website. These databases can be used with applying students’ emails and passwords to login pages of the relevant database.

Reading Facilities

The PGIIM Library provides a reading facility for our users in a limited capacity. They can do their studies in the area. Users have been prohibited from taking foods and beverages to this area. This area is not allowed to come nonusers, friends, and relatives for misuse. Personal laptops and tabs are allowed to use in the reading area but PGIIM staff are not responsible for caring for users’ equipment. The user is responsible make a calm and peaceful in this reading area without disturbing others. Users can use their laptops for study purposes and will be supplied laptops and Wi-Fi with conditions by PGIIM in the future.

All users are expected to familiarize themselves with these rules for the use Library and with the following obligations. Library Facilities are not to be used for other than educational purposes.

  • A library is a quiet place of study, strictly silence and discipline must be maintained in the library. The use of cell phones is not allowed. As well as eating, sleeping, and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the library.
  • Document taken out should be on the one side of the table. Replacing the books on shelves is not encouraged as they may get misplaced.
  • Nonmembers of the library cannot enter the library.
  • Readers should not mark, underline, or write tear pages or any other damage to the library books.
  • Library materials are not allowed to bring out without permission.
  • Anyone who breaks the library regulations and rules library would be liable to lose the privilege of library membership and maybe get action furthermore.
  • Users can not enter the library with coats, cases, bags, umbrellas, and similar personal belongings, and library staff is not responsible for your personal materials left in the library.
  • Food and drink may not be brought into the library.
  • Readers must not engage in the harassment of any other reader or member of the library.
  • No group discussion and meetings will be permitted in the library.

 

Rules for use reading room

  • Should maintain strict discipline and silence.
  • Do not disturbance for others.
  • Not permitted to meeting and discussion.
  • Not permitted to indiscipline activities.
  • Destroying equipment would be penalized.
  • No permission to have food inside the reading room.
  • We are not responsible for books and other equipment of users left in the reading room.
  • No permission for reserving chairs or tables for others in advance.
