The Postgraduate Institute of Indigenous Medicine (PGIIM), University of Colombo, successfully hosted a distinguished delegation from the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB) on 28th and 29th April 2026. This institutional visit marked a significant step towards strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in the field of traditional and indigenous medicine.

The primary objective of the visit was to foster academic partnerships, explore opportunities for joint research and academic exchange, and promote knowledge sharing, while laying the foundation for long-term cooperation through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The visiting delegation comprised Dr. Kuenzang Chhenzom (Registrar), Dr. Sangay Wangdi (Dean, Faculty of Traditional Medicine), Ms. Namgay Lham (Associate Professor), and Mr. Pema Gyeltshen (Administrative Officer).

During the visit, the delegation engaged in a series of productive discussions with key stakeholders, including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, the Director of PGIIM, and the Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine. The programme also included institutional visits to the National Ayurveda Teaching Hospital, Borella, and the Ayurveda Drugs Corporation under the Department of Ayurveda, providing valuable insights into Sri Lanka’s traditional healthcare system.
