In observance of World Cancer Day 2026, the Postgraduate Institute of Indigenous Medicine (PGIIM) proudly presents a distinguished academic and public awareness programme dedicated to advancing knowledge on cancer prevention, early detection, and integrative care.

This programme brings together modern medical perspectives and Indigenous medical wisdom to foster a holistic understanding of cancer, with special emphasis on prevention, community awareness, and compassionate, patient-centred care.

The event will feature keynote addresses by eminent experts in their respective fields.
Dr. Prasanna Jayasekara, Consultant in Community Dentistry and Head of the Oral Cancer Prevention and Control Unit of the National Cancer Prevention Programme (NCCP), will deliver an expert lecture on Oral Carcinoma, highlighting prevention strategies and early intervention.
Dr. L. P. A. K. Karunathilake, Senior Ayurveda Surgeon and former Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, will explore the Ayurveda perspective on cancer, emphasizing integrative and traditional approaches to care.
