PGIIM Conducts Orientation Ceremony for New Batches of MD in Ayurveda and Siddha

The Postgraduate Institute of Indigenous Medicine (PGIIM), University of Colombo, conducted the Orientation Ceremony for the 4th Batch of the MD in Ayurveda and Board Certification and the 1st Batch of the MD in Siddha and Board Certification on 25th October 2025 at the PGIIM premises.

The event was graced by the members of all Boards of Study and Specialty Boards in Ayurveda and Siddha, along with new and current MD trainees, doctors, academics, staff members of PGIIM, and other distinguished guests.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, followed by the Dhanvantari Pooja and Agastya Pooja. Subsequently, the Shishyopanayana Samskara was performed to symbolize the initiation of the new trainees into their advanced academic journey.

The Charaka Oath was administered by Professor S. M. S. Samarakoon, Director of PGIIM. The program also included informative sessions on the national significance of the MD programs in Ayurveda and Siddha, as well as discussions on administrative and financial regulations and the structure of the MD programs.

The ceremony concluded with a comprehensive session on the Pre-MD Portfolio, marking the official beginning of the academic journey for the new batch of MD scholars.
