MESSAGE FROM THE SYMPOSIUM CHAIR
It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of purpose that I extend a warm welcome to all participants, contributors, and distinguished guests to the International Symposium on Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha medicine (ISAUS-2025) of the Postgraduate Institute of Indigenous Medicine (PGIIM), scheduled to be held on 17th and 18th October 2025. This year’s symposium builds on the momentum of our inaugural Annual Research Symposium held last year, marking a significant milestone as we elevate the event to the international stage for the first time. The theme for this year, “Preserving Heritage Through Quality Research”, remains unchanged a deliberate and thoughtful decision by the organizing committee. In an era of rapid modernization, this theme encapsulates our collective responsibility to protect, validate, and advance the profound knowledge systems embedded within Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani medicine. These time-tested traditions are not relics of the past, but living sciences that continue to offer meaningful contributions to global health and well-being.As the only authorized higher education institute in Sri Lanka to award the Doctor of Medicine degree and grant Board Certification in all three systems of medicine; Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani, PGIIM stands at the forefront of integrating traditional wisdom with contemporary scientific rigor. Our research symposium is a key platform to foster scholarly dialogue, interdisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based development in traditional and integrative medicine. This year’s symposium welcomes original research contributions across a broad range of themes including but not limited to clinical research in Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, traditional medicine, pharmacognosy, drug discovery, medical anthropology, and other relevant disciplines aligned with our sub-themes. We are particularly enthusiastic to see increased participation from international scholars, researchers, and postgraduate students, especially from India, and from our own network of Sri Lankan universities and institutions.
By bringing together a diverse academic and professional community, we hope to strengthen the bridges between tradition and innovation, and between local knowledge systems and global research standards. On behalf of the organizing committee and PGIIM, I invite you all to be part of this important academic gathering. Join us in celebrating our heritage through rigorous inquiry, thoughtful dialogue, and shared aspirations for a healthier world.
We look forward to welcoming you in October 2025.
